One of the career principles I teach is – you have to let go of the good in order to embrace the great. I had to let of some of the things that I really enjoyed doing, businesses who were making good returns in order to make space for something great.
So what happens, one of the greatest obstacles to career change is comfort. Meaning, you got something working, it brings food on the table, pays the bills, but every monday feels like a pain. To get to the next level, you have to let go of this pain. And it’s hard to let go of something that’s you have been commuting to for the last few years. The largest fear for most people is not the fear of public speaking or sky diving, but the fear of career change. You have made lots of friends, lots of connections, you have a sense of belonging and it is quite normal to have those feelings, this is how it is supposed to be in terms of the outer world looking at it.
But if you are waking up on Mondays, and it feel like this wasn’t doing for you anymore, you are performing like a ‘Ford’ when you have the capacity of a ‘Ferrari’ , this is the time to take in everything you are, your skills, your talents and realign yourself with your values. This is the start of something and I called it in Leavers to Leaders-Leading Opportunities. That’s where it all starts, It is not your CV, it is not your LinkedIn Bio, it all starts with you. It is a whole new sense of empowerment when you take complete control of your career, not only you benefit from its reward, but those closest to you reap it as well.
